Plan a route and write a route card

Practice basic use of compass

Find out

Where you can and can’t walk, how to walk safely and what to take with you

Afternoon outdoor practical session

Walk the route you planned in the morning session  and relate features on map to the lay of the land.

 

Please bring water bottle, waterproofs, suitable footwear and a compass if you have one

Tea and coffee provided.  Please bring your own lunch.

Planning a route over wild country, navigation techniques,  using a compass effectively.

Long practical day on Dartmoor

Putting theory into practice

Navigating to specific points away from footpaths and over rough terrain.

Anyone wishing to take part must be physically fit with plenty of stamina.  Dartmoor is difficult walking country with peat bogs, rocky outcrops and changeable weather.
